Here is a video that I found on YouTube that some may find interesting. It shows the use of a trained dog in a study to search for mountain lion scat for DNA testing.
Like the lady said, you can train a dog to search for any kind of scent. Look at the dogs they train for drug enforcement work. I think it would be easier to train a dog to search for cat scat. Hunting dogs trail wild cats (cougar, bobcat) all the time. It should be easier to find the scat. More scent, and it would last longer. I recently read an article somewhere about training dogs to find shed elk antlers.
